Most of us don't give much consideration to the windows that are in the home. They simply provide us a way to look out of the home and to see the outdoors, as well as to provide some ventilation, when necessary. What you may not realize, however, is the fact that there are various thicknesses of glass that are available, depending upon the window unit. At Executive Window Services, we are very familiar with the type of glass that is used to make windows and we always ensure that the right type of glass is used, so that you can get the most out of the windows that are in your home. What are some of the different sizes of glass and when are they considered for installation in your home?
The thinnest glass that is available for installation in window units is 1/16". This thickness is only going to be used, in many cases, on very small windows. It is also typically the size glass that is used in picture frames and as you may be aware, can be very fragile if it is not handled properly. The next largest thickness of glass is 1/8". This is also known as double strength glass, and provides you with a sturdier window. This type of glass is often used for double pane windows and it can provide you with, not only additional strength but also additional insulation in comparison with the thinner glass.
There may also be times when thicker glass, including 3/16"or 1/4" glass is considered. These thicknesses of glass can provide you with additional sturdiness and they are often considered for larger windows in the home. Although they provide additional integrity, they also weigh more and considerations need to be taken for installing them properly. At Executive Window Services, we use a special winch that is attached to the top of the ladder for installing any heavy windows on the second floor. We also ensure that our professionals wear safety glasses and gloves when handling glass.
Not only can we install windows in the home professionally, we are also able to clean them professionally as well. We use a 5 step process which ensures that they are streak free and perfectly clean when we leave your home. Included in this process is the use of a scraper and very fine steel wool. We understand how to use these items professionally to avoid damaging the window but leaving it clean. We also pay close attention to the details, such as cleaning the screens and screen tracks and wiping down the window sills when we are finished.
